Introducing IDEA-SIS

IDEA-SIS transforms management of student records into an automated, dynamic process that allows you to focus on providing quality services and outcomes for students in exceptional education. This software assists school staff and families in the process of determining student needs, developing legally correct and useful Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and monitoring student educational and behavioral progress. IDEA-SIS also generates customized letters and reports to communicate with parents and meet federal reporting requirements.

This system provides an integrated technology-based management process that will carry educators into the next millennium.

IDEA-SIS was designed and developed in cooperation with special education teachers and coordinators, school psychologists, and special education research faculty at Utah State University with more than a decade of IDEA compliance monitoring experience. IDEA-SIS will be piloted during the 1999-2000 school year in 15 BIA funded schools and released nationally in the Spring of 2000.

Friendly Interface: What you see is what you get (WYSIWYG)

WYSIWYG is what makes IDEA-SIS different from other student records management programs. The forms you see on the screen are the same forms you get when you print. This allows teachers and parents to see exactly what the printed form will look like while they enter data. Using such a system simplifies the transition from a paper and pencil system to a computerized system and makes the learning curve easier.

Integrated Compliance Guide

IDEA-SIS includes compliance reminders throughout the system that encourages users to focus on

  • Consistency between each step of the special education process
  • Completion of all required components
  • Appropriate notification of and communication with parents at appropriate times
  • Maintenance of required timelines.

The program reflects the latest requirements in the IDEA ’97 final regulations produced on March 12, 1999. The program includes explanation of changes in the regulations as well as references to the federal regulations, to help increase users' knowledge levels.

Other Features

  • Bee-Sees Progress Tracking and Outcome Monitoring Tools

The revised hard copies of the forms will be available for your use this school year through the BIA special education coordinators.
