Personnel Preparation Issues

Idea 97 Highlights

The Branch of Exceptional Education must ensure that service providers are appropriately and adequately prepared and trained
The Branch of Exceptional Education must take steps to require retraining or hiring of personnel that meet appropriate professional requirements
Allows for paraprofessionals and assistants who are appropriately trained and supervised to provide services
Schools are to make a good faith effort to recruit and hire appropriately and adequately trained personnel

Goal A: Ensure that there is an appropriately trained professional and paraprofessional staff to provide services.

-Increase linkages with institutions of higher education, especially tribal colleges

-Increase efforts to train more paraprofessionals

-Identify types of service providers needed and facilitate their training

-Disseminate information, train, support and monitor

-Assist with training of paraprofessionals
